Ricky Gervais has been asked to host the Golden Globe Awards again next year, despite receiving a mixed reaction to his appearance this time around.
In a diary for Heat magazine, the actor, writer and comedian wrote: “The ratings went up again, and the organisers asked me to consider a third year.”
However, it looks like Gervais isn’t keen: “I don’t think I should. I don’t know what I could do better. I certainly couldn’t get more press for them, that’s for sure,” he added.
“You know me. Two seasons is enough.”
The 49-year-old was criticised in the US press last month after his appearance at the 2011 Golden Globes, when he cracked jokes at the expense of Charlie Sheen, Robert Downey Jr and Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner, among others.
Following the awards, Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Philip Berk described parts of Gervais’ routine as “totally unacceptable” but did not comment on whether he would be asked back.
