I was just out in Cannes for a few days and managed to catch some of the features they are screening out there this year and there is some great stuff down there in the South of France to be seen. Ahead of the awards being dished out on Saturday night, including the prestigious Palme d’Or for best film, here is some news on two titles which are reportedly going to be picked up by Netflix.
One of the best word-of-mouth movies down there is Spanish-language Emilia Pérez which is reportedly nearing a deal to sell its U.S. and U.K. rights to the streamer. Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón lead the cast and I am hearing it is a really unique piece of work and a top contender for the big award.
Elsewhere, the streamer is also set to bag Monstanto, a legal drama packaged up at the market in Cannes. The film stars Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie and Laura Dern and is directed by Jon Lee Hancock (Saving Mr. Banks).
No release dates have been set.
