We know what you’re thinking… aren’t they already doing one? Well, no. Universal have their own ‘Little Mermaid’ in development which will star Chloe Grace Moretz, be directed by Rebecca Thomas from a screenplay by Richard Curtis. It has nothing to do with Disney. However, the Mouse House are apparently mulling over an idea to bring a live-action version of their animated tale, released back in 1989, to the screen.
Deadline report the news that following next year’s Beauty and the Beast and the countless other re-dos of their animated classics that are in the works (Pete’s Dragon, Dumb etc), they may be adding their take on the famous Hans Christian Andersen tale to that growing list. Apparently, they’ve been pitched a decent idea as to how to bring it to the screen, but are as yet undecided on if they will through some cash at it (the $800 million plus from the last big adaptation The Jungle Book should sway them in the positive direction though).
No further news than that, but we’ll obviously keep you updated.
