U.S. Box-Office: Disney’s Zootropolis dominates ‘Allegiant’

Zootropolis review

Zootropolis

Zootropolis, or indeed Zootopia as it is known in its domestic territory, continues to dominate the U.S. box-office, and has remained at the top of the chart for its third week. It has dominated proceedings since release, and this week stopped The Divergent Series: Allegiant from grabbing the top spot on the chart. Zootropolis has now take over $200 million in North America alone, and has a total of $591 million around the world, with the U.K. and Japan still to have the film open.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant opened to just $29 million, a huge drop from the opening of the last film in the series, Insurgent, which grabbed $54.6 million in its first three days back last year. The film opened in the U.K. last week to very poor reviews. The film has a worldwide haul of around $82 million.

Another of this week’s other new releases was Miracles From Heaven, which opened at the number three spot with $15 million, although it has a total of $18 million as it officially opened on Wednesday. The Jennifer Garner starrer opened to pretty good reviews.

Rounding out the top five were 10 Cloverfield Lane, which took in another $12.5 million, and the supreme-stayer Deadpool, which banked a further $8 million.

Expect this week’s big release, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice to shake things up this coming weekend. The huge superhero movie opens on Friday.
