It has been widely reported that Kevin Smith’s HIT SOMEBODY was to be his final movie, but that project seems to have morphed into a mini-series, so in fact Smith’s film swansong will in fact be a second sequel to his cult classic sequel CLERKS, which apparently he started writing this morning, at 4.20am local time to be exact (about 7 hours ago as I write this).
The news was confirmed on his Facebook page:
“THE BEGINNING OF THE END
20 years ago today, we started shooting CLERKS.
20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing CLERKS III.
It’s been like hanging out with old friends.
And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion…
CLERKS III will be the best film I’ll ever make.”
Personally, I will be sad to see the guy go, but as they always say, you have to go away to be able to come back. Here’s to the final adventures of Randall, Dante, and Jay and Silent Bob.
The writer/ director and now podcaster also added the title page from the Final Draft document:
