Recently there have been many words around the highly anticipated seventh instalment in the STAR WARS franchise, which is currently scheduled for a winter 2015 release date. Since Disney acquired Lucasfilm late last year for around 5 billion dollars the internet has not stopped with endless rumours and speculation on which characters will return to the lucrative franchise and which new actors will take on roles in the upcoming science fiction sequel.
The most recent rumours surrounding STAR WARS EPISODE VII have involved previous cast members who may be reluctant to return to the STAR WARS universe, and a certain Mr Cumberbatch possibly taking on a villainous role in the sequel. With all the excitement and anticipation around the forthcoming sequel, it’s easy to forget the origins of the franchise that took us to a galaxy far far away over thirty years ago. With that in mind, the original teaser trailer for STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK has been released online. The 1980 film was the first sequel to George Lucas’s original masterpiece in 1977 and is not only considered to be one of the greatest sequels of all time but also one of the greatest films of all time in its own right. You can see the teaser trailer below:
Despite the fact that no actual footage from the film is shown, the voice over accompanied by Ralph McQuarrie’s gorgeous concept art is as effective as ever and we can only hope that the next film in the franchise can recapture some of its former glory.
