We’re still unsure of any confirmed casting for Disney and Lucasfilm’s STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, despite the studios having ample opportunity to disclose the tiniest tidbit via San Diego Comic Con or the D23 event. However, with J.J. Abrams confirmed as the director from as script by Oscar-winner Michael Arndt, previous talk of original trio Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) being involved were pretty much confirmed from the actors themselves.
We’re now hearing Film Chronicles believe a major casting announcement is imminent and it’s certainly one that could make perfect sense given he’s recently (and mysteriously) departed from a major project – Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK. Yes, Khan himself, the lead villain in Abrams’ own STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS is expected to be named as one of the first big names set for the epic sci-fi sequel.
We obviously have to treat this as rumour until something suggests otherwise but it’s exciting to think Cumberbatch, who has previously admitted he’d love to be included in the cast, could well be swinging a lightsabre very soon!
What do you guys think!
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
