There is little doubt that one of the most iconic TV shows and one of the most iconic lead characters of the last decade, possibly of all-time, was 24 and it’s hero Jack Bauer. Since the show went off the air after eight seasons in 2010, rumours had been circling around the show maybe making the jump to the big screen (including the insane but brilliant rumour of a 24/DIE HARD crossover) but for one reason or another, the proposed film adaptation never really got of the ground, before it was finally aborted completely due to budgetary concerns. Last year however Fox announced that they were bringing the series back for a limited 12 episode run that would be set in London and not follow the same format in that there would be jumps in time instead of the episodes following each other continuously. Now we have a release date as the whole thing will kick off on 5th May with a special two hour episode in the states.
Personally I liked the original run of 24, but I felt that it went back to the same ideas too many times to be a really great show. Things like Jack Bauer being chased by the law for instance was pretty much a recurring theme every season, and it got a bit stale in the end. However the show’s new 12 episode format and the vastly different setting might help this to become really good. It also helps that the show will feature the awesome Yvonne Strahovski, and the underrated Michael Wincott…less so that the horribly annoying Audrey Raines (Kim Raver) will make her return as well. 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY will air on Sky1 in the UK, but exactly how far after its US air date is still unknown.
