In case you missed it, a sequel to one of the best thrillers of the past decade is on the way. The Accountant was released all of the way back in 2016 and soon, a follow-up will roll into production over at the Amazon MGM Studios.
The big news this week is that a bunch of cast members from the first movie are coming back for the second. Ben Affleck will return in the role of Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant who launders money for some pretty bad guys. He will be joined by the likes of Jon Bernthal, J.K. Simmons, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson, who played Treasury agent Marybeth Medina. All appeared in the original.
Deadline reports the news adding a brief plot synopsis, too.
They say that the new film sees Medina’s former boss killed by unknown assassins. ‘She’s forced to contact Christian to solve the murder. With the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax, Chris applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. As they get closer to the truth, the trio draw the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive — all intent on putting a stop to their search.’
Gavin O’Connor, who helmed the first movie, will return to direct the new one. The Accountant was a huge success, grossing over $155 million, so the studio will no doubt want to replicate that success with the sequel.
I loved the first film so can’t wait to see what the filmmakers have up their sleeves with this new one.
