I’m literally just back in the door from seeing this myself and confirm, and indeed concur with Kat’s review, that it is indeed one off if not the best in the whole series. Yes, I am talking about John Wick: Chapter 4 which looks like it also may become the biggest in the franchise in terms of opening weekends.

According to early reports, the film bagged $30 million in its first day (including just under $9 million in Thursday previews) making the film on course to break around $70 million in receipts in its domestic territory over the opening weekend. To put that in perspective, the 2017 John Wick: Chapter 2 opened to $30.4 million over its first three days.

The film currently has a 96% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 97% audience score – but expect that to rise as the weekend crowds flock in.

Kat said in her review: “In just four films the John Wick saga has gone from humble graphic novel-esque beginnings to live-action video-game ballet. It’s been one heck of a journey, but one that will hopefully be put to rest with this chapter. Parabellum placed the series in peril of jumping the shark, but John Wick 4 brings the series back to basics. In many ways this is the film that three should have been – the series was originally touted as a trilogy – and will surely sate those that were disappointed with the third chapter. An action-led, potentially last, jaunt with everyone’s favourite dog-loving ‘retired’ hitman, John Wick 4 is an epic conclusion to a sensational saga.”
