Road to Grimmfest: Interview with ’Two Witches’ writer and director Pierre Tsigaridis

Two Witches screens at Grimmfest 2021 on 8th October 2021.

If you are in the market for some scary and spooky shenanigans this October then you need look no further than Grimmfest. The annual scare-fest turns thirteen this year, and to ensure that maximum audience members can celebrate the festivities safely it will hold two events, one physical and one virtual. Beginning with the in-real-life event at Manchester’s Odeon Great Northern from 7th to 10th October, Grimmfest will continue online from 14th to 17th October. Tickets for both components are available now, and will grant attendees access to over thirty films that embrace all spectrum’s of horror.

The line-up will feature some classics, but will primarily focus on new voices in the genre world. One such new talent is Paris-born Pierre Tsigaridis. Tsigaridis debuts his film Two Witches to UK audiences, a project on which Tsigaridis was essentially a one-person film crew. In addition to directing and co-writing the film, Tsigaridis also worked as producer, cinematographer, and editor. Two Witches  follows on from the fantastic short I Who Have No One (available to view online) and was made entirely during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Told in chapters, Two Witches presents the story of – as the title suggests – two witches. Each witch has their own very different story to tell, both of which are sure to capture the imagination of horror lovers everywhere. Films with witches are often set in olden times, but Tsigaridis has cooked up a very modern study of witchcraft, one that sees the stone-set tradition bang heads with the newer world in which we are living. Those that have seen Tsigaridis’ short, I Who Have No One, will know that the filmmaker isn’t afraid about a gore sequence, and Two Witches is full of gut-bustingly gnarly practical effects that may leave you feeling a little queasy.

Two Witches is the perfect film to unleash on the Grimmfest audience and Tsigaridis is sure to be a creator to keep an eye on. Ahead of Two Witches’ UK premiere, we jumped on a Zoom call with Pierre to gain further insight into Two Witches.
