Following the debut of the impressive first trailer for T2: Trainspotting this past week, the book’s original author, Irvine Welsh, has been talking about future adventures on the screen for the many characters from his books.
As well as the first book, and then Porno, on which T2 will be based, Welsh also has Skagboys, which was published in 2012, a prequel to the aforementioned stories, and this year’s The Blade Artist, which focuses on Trainspotting character Begbie. The NME in the UK asked Welsh if there were plans to turn any of those stories into dramatisations?
“Basically, I’ve plans for them all. All in various kind of schedules or adaptations.”
“It’s all ruling on cable TV, cable TV has some interesting developments,” he added. “We’re working on all these different kind of things.”
“I think now anybody who’s in the book, whether the like it or not, they’re working on the way of being in the film. You keep that in mind. As soon as you’ve written it, you’re thinking about how it can move into different mediums.”
Exciting. T2: Trainspotting will be released in January.
