Orphan Black was a television series that came out of nowhere and became an instant cult phenomena. It stars the amazing Tatiana Maslany as Sarah Manning, a petty criminal who finds out that she’s actually part of a cloning experiment. In addition to playing Sarah, Maslany also plays several characters (clones of Sarah) on the show. Maslany does such a good job of inhabiting these characters that you forget that they are all being played by the same woman. In fact, if we think about it too long, it makes our heads hurt.
The series has just been greenlit for a fifth season which is fantastic news, however it will also be the last. All good things must come to an end and sadly the next series will have us bidding farewell to Sarah and all her ‘sestras’. We shouldn’t get too disheartened though as a show with the kind of plot that this one does, has to reach a conclusion eventually. If not, viewers would grow tired of it and it would end on a low.
Orphan Black started life in the UK on BBC 3 but this year moved to Netflix for the fourth season. The digital platform will also host the final outing.
