U.S. Box-Office: Batman V Superman dominates with $166m debut

Batman V Superman review

As predicted, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice dominated the U.S. box-office this past weekend, and took a massive $166.1 million across the three days, making it the highest-grossing pre-summer blockbuster (beating The Hunger Games‘ 2012 debut).

The film opened to rather poor reviews, but that doesn’t seem to have affected its box-office haul one bit. The film has taken a huge $420 million since Friday in 60+ markets on over 40,000 screens. Impressive. Its proud U.S. debut makes it the seventh highest opener ever, just behind Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which grabbed $169.2 million over its debut weekend a few years back.

Batman V Superman also bagged an impressive $21.9 million in the U.K., sending it straight to the top of the charts for the week.
