Mexican director Guillermo del Toro has said that he has a great idea for a Jabba The Hutt gangster film set in the Star Wars universe.
Guillermo del Toro, director of the gems Pan’s Labyrinth and Mimic, has thrown his hat into the ring to direct a Star Wars movie after proclaiming that he has a great idea for a Jabba The Hutt gangster movie.
Speaking at the San Diego Comic Con promoting his upcoming horror Crimson Peak, del Toro said that he wasn’t signed up for anything (yet), but merely a fanboy fantasising about making a film set in the Star Wars universe.
“This is not real, this is me as a fat geek just geeking out and talking about it,” he said.
Speaking to Yahoo! Movies, the director added: “I would do the sort of Godfather saga that Jabba the Hutt had to go through to gain control. One, because it’s the character that looks the most like me, and I like him. I love the idea of a Hutt type of mafia, a very complex coup, you know? I just love the character.”
Love his idea for this, and I would love to see what a young Jabba pre-A New Hope etc. would look like. Get on that phone Lucasfilm!
Crimson Peak, which stars Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Tom Hiddleston, will open on October 16th.
