Karen Gillan’s ‘Selfie’ Pilot Released Online In The US

Karen Gillan's Selfie

With a full season on the way later in the year ABC have opted to make sitcom Selfie‘s opening episode available to the world ahead of its TV premiere on September 30th. Unfortunately it’s only viewable to those in America via Hulu. Just as Karen Gillan’s lead character Eliza Dooley throws it all out there to her army of followers on social media, so the network no doubt hope this move will gain the show some decent advance word. Gillan herself has been no slouch in this respect, posing for a comedic nude snap by way of promotion.

A version of My Fair Lady reimagined by Suburgatory creator Emily Kapnek, the synopsis is as follows:

Eliza has 263,000 followers who hang on to her every post, tweet and selfie. But one lonely day, she has a revelation: being friended is not the same as having actual friends. She asks marketing guru Henry to ‘rebrand’ her self-obsessed reputation and teach her how to connect with people in the real world. “Selfie” explores the modern struggles of Eliza and Henry, as he tries to teach her how to live life offline–whether she ‘likes’ it or not.

Co-starring John Cho (STAR TREK) as Henry, the misadventures commence over on ABC’s USA channel, and we’re hopeful of a similar UK follow-up soon.

Selfie is produced by Piece Of Pie Productions/Warner Bros Television.
