After the somewhat disappointing TRON LEGACY it seems that a third outing is still in the works. Whilst doing some promotion for TRON LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski has revealed that a follow-up is still on the cards.
TRON LEGACY was a sequel to the 1982 classic TRON. The story followed Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), son of Jeff Bridges’ Kevin Flynn the designer of the Tron world. Sam was desperately searching for his father who has not been seen since the events of TRON. He also found himself transported to the virtual environment where he met Olivia Wilde’s Quorra. The film ended with the pair escaping the Tron universe.
The third film would follow on from this with Quorra adjusting to life in the ‘real’ world. Cillian Murphy’s brief appearance in TRON LEGACY would be upgraded to the villain of the piece in a bid to continue the rivalry of the Flynn’s and Dillingers. Kosinski had the following to say:
We’re working on the story right now. Once we get a script we’re all really happy with, we’ll take it to the powers that be and see if we can go back to the grid.
I think we will pick with where TRON: LEGACY left off with Quorra in the real world and what does that mean and the possibilities it opens up for the next chapter. It’s that relationship between the two of them that’s the next step.
Dillinger was a really important part of the first film and felt like an easy way to continue that storyline and thread to have his son in the new movie. That way you have people ask those questions of what the Dillinger legacy is in the world of TRON. We didn’t want to ignore it completely and it leaves a really nice springboard for some intertwining development for the next film.
The film was visually stunning but the plot was a little lacking with the best thing about TRON LEGACY being the soundtrack, which was provided by Daft Punk. With that in mind let’s hope if a third film is made they get the group back on board and take their time on the story with a little less focus on pretty lights.

I’m really looking forward to this, for those same reasons!
Not many movies do perfect escapism these days, but this has the chance for sure.

I agreee, and have a lot of confidence that this will be better than the last movie, and possibly be the foremost of the trilogy…though the original will always be the most nostalgic. The cast looks really promising too; Hedlund and Wilde are returning, so is the guy who played the original Tron. Cilian Murphy is rumored to have joined the cast too. So, everything is looking up, from an already optimistic production.

I really like the story. It left me very excited for a sequel. I don’t mind the time they spend on the pretty lights. It’s one of the few action movies I can watch and own in full screen because of the time they spent on the production.

I thought Legacy was a really good movie. Not sure why you say it was disappointing. Incredible soundtrack and visuals. Awesome scenes with Michael Sheen and super hot girl. I also thought the story was compelling as Flynn gets a 2nd chance to make things right and realizing what’s important in life!
