Could it be? Are audiences finally starting to grow weary of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise? The very first 2014 weekend US box office figures might suggest so, as PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE MARKED ONES made a debut-weekend box office low for the franchise – though of course, with only a $5 million budget, it still managed to profit with takings of $18 million.
Meanwhile, plenty of 2013 films are still going strong, with Disney’s FROZEN taking the top spot with $20 million, bringing its total takings to almost $300 million. That’s quite deserved, of course, with the delightful animated feature offering plenty of humour, originality and some bloody good songs to boot.
THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG continued to make big money from audiences, taking the third spot with $16 million weekend takings, while November’s THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE is just about clinging on to the top ten list with $7 million weekend takings. Universal’s 47 RONIN, however, is nowhere to be seen, after disappointing once again in North American theatres.
