‘Gravity’ Has An Out-Of-This-World Second Weekend

GRAVITY, Alfonso Cuaron’s space drama that’s creating a lot of buzz in the media, has continued its winning streak after taking in $44.2 million on its second weekend in the US.

Over its opening weekend the film garnered a whopping $55.6 million, pushing it to being the biggest October opener ever. With that being said, GRAVITY’s US total is currently sitting at £123.4 million – impressive, especially as there’s a lot of physics-based criticism floating around on the internet. 84% of the money taken has come from 3D and IMAX showings, disproving the belief that the thrill of three dimensions is losing its…thrill. Like many blockbuster hits, ratings and takings decrease over the weeks, but I don’t think it’ll be a dramatic drop for a film which seems to be taking over awards season predictions.

As soon as I saw the first teaser trailer, I was hooked. I cannot wait for GRAVITY to hit UK cinemas but I’m unsure whether to see it in 3D – I’m thinking I should take a travel sickness tablet beforehand…

Starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, GRAVITY will land in UK cinemas from 8th November. You can read our LFF review here.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
