Duchovny Confirms Chris Carter Writing Third ‘X Files’ Feature

X-Files-David-Duchovny

The first big-screen blockbuster born from 1990s cult sci-fi series THE X-FILES did decent business after being released while the series was still running. 2008’s sequel didn’t fair so well, coming some six years after the end of the show and effectively bombed. Still, those involved have been campaigning (along with fans) for 20th Century Fox to green-light a third movie outing for FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

David Duchovny, who played the obsessive and otherworldy-hunting agent “Spooky” Mulder, has confirmed creator Chris Carter is still moving ahead with a screenplay to complete a big-screen trilogy but will Fox stump up the cash to finance?

I think Chris [Carter] is working on a script. Chris is shooting a pilot [for a different project] right now, so he might not be working on the script, but he claims to be working on a script, and if he does do that and Fox wants to make it, Gillian will do it, I will do it, so start your writing campaign now. Seriously. We’d all love to do it.

This isn’t the first time THN have heard rumours of the movie either with both Carter and Duchovny talking about it previously, would you love another outing with the two?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
