Despite following director Lynne Ramsey out of the door of JANE GOT A GUN, Michael Fassbender will have another crack at the western genre as he’s set to star in gunslinging epic SLOW WEST. The film is being directed by former Beta Band member turned filmmaker John Maclean, with Fassbender having previously collaborated on two shorts a few years back. It’s expected shoot in New Zealand before the end of the year.

Film 4, DMC Film and the The New Zealand Film Commission will all finance the film with the brilliant Ben Mendelsohn (outstanding in the likes of ANIMAL KINGDOM, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES and KILLING THEM SOFTLY) and rising youngster Kodi Smit-McPhee (THE ROAD, LET ME IN) set to co-star.

Fassbender will next be seen in Steve McQueen’s Oscar-favourite 12 YEARS AS A SLAVE and Ridley Scott’s tense drug thriller THE COUNSELOR.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
