And the Next Doctor Is… Peter Capaldi

Doctor Who

The bookie’s favourite, Peter Capaldi, has been officially announced as the Twelfth Doctor, set to take over the role come the Christmas Special.

The 55 year-old Capaldi is no stranger to the show, having appeared in the (brilliant) 2008 episode THE FIRES OF POMPEII, and he was one of the best things about TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH. And much like fellow Scot David Tennant, Capaldi admits to being an avid, lifelong fan of the series.

It’s assumed – at least, there’s nothing said to the contrary – that current companion Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, will remain at the Doctor’s side.

Rumours have been flying faster than one of Malcolm Tucker’s rants; Steven Moffat claims only ten people knew the identity of the next Doctor, but one major clue was left when celebrity photographer Rankin let slip it was a man.

Matt Smith was absent from the announcement show on BBC, but recorded a goodwill message to his replacement, wishing him the best with a smile.
