‘Akira’ Returning to UK Cinemas 13th July

Akira Poster Image 2One of the most influential anime motion pictures of all time is gearing up for a return to UK cinema screens this summer. To celebrate AKIRA’s 25th anniversary, the film will open at UK cinemas on 13th July. AKIRA was one of the films that truly announced Japanese animation to the west, as something that should be both embraced and celebrated. With its violence and complex narrative, AKIRA proved that animation wasn’t just for kids, and had the capability to explore so much more than singing animals and friendship (although those things are pretty ace too). Its influence didn’t just stop at animation, with the recent superhero film CHRONICLE inspired by its exploration of the dangers of great power.

A new UK quad poster is also being designed to commemorate the occasion, so we’ll bring that to you when it’s ready. Although I’ve never been the biggest fan of AKIRA, there is no denying its sheer unequivocal power and fingerprints its left all over the medium. Seeing it on the big screen will be a true feast for the eyes.

If Akira returning to UK cinemas doesn’t do it for you, then nothing will.
