Every time I hear a piece of GODZILLA news, a piece of me lights up inside. It’s just like hearing about Lindsay Lohan leaving rehab, you can’t wait to see her again because you know how much devastation she’s going to cause. Well you can imagine how happy I am today, hearing two pieces of news about the American reboot of our big lovable Japanese gorilla-whale.
First of all it is being reported that GODZILLA will be facing off against two new monsters. This is highly exciting stuff, as who doesn’t want to see the Big G taking down other strange creatures. The word “new” is also intriguing, as the producers have a huge back catalog of Toho Studios kaiju to choose from. However, I’m open to some new beasts stepping up to the challenge, as long as Minilla keeps his stupid face out of things. The film will also follow the escapades of a soldier and will be very different from the Toho films. I can see that working, but what about all the nonsensical science babble about Godzilla and how to destroy him?
But the real battle is happening behind the cameras. There was controversy reported earlier this week about producers walking from the project. Those producers, Dan Lin, Roy Lee and Doug Davison are now facing a lawsuit from Legendary Pictures, which you can read here. The main point of the lawsuit is to keep the producers returning for a sequel and to stop the producers’ restraining order against the film from holding up production.
Let’s hope, unlike Godzilla’s confrontations, this can all be handled in a civil and respectable manner. Otherwise, just dress ’em all up in monster suits and let them beat the living daylights out of each other.
Gareth Edwards’ GODZILLA returns to screens on 16th May 2014. But if you can’t wait that long for your kaiju filled destructive flicks, then catch PACIFIC RIM this summer.
