Director Guillermo Del Toro recently answered questions about two of his highly-anticipated projects – one involving a classic novel and the other a popular Marvel Comics hero.
Earlier this week in L.A., the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences kicked off their month-long Montrous Centennial: Universal’s Legacy of Horror film series. With a whole slew of newly restored prints – many of which also just received their debut Blu-ray release – the festival brought together horror aficionados, including presenter Del Toro.
After years in development limbo, it appears that Del Toro’s FRANKENSTEIN adaptation is finally “back on track.” The director revealed that a script was in the works; however, considering his dedication to creating a loyal adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel, Del Toro estimates that the script will take two years to complete. “I’m being very faithful in that I’m trying to capture the spirit of the novel, when I read it as a kid, and how it impacted me,” he said.
Another project on the horizon is a television series centred around Marvel’s HULK. What with the massive box office intake for THE AVENGERS, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. However, the only information Del Toro would divulge was that there was a specific writer that the producers and his team wanted to bring in – and that it was simply a matter of waiting to hear the official go-ahead.
