Yesterday we brought you the first two character posters for Seth Gordon’s follow-up to HORRIBLE BOSSES, IDENTITY THIEF, starring Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. Today we have the first official trailer for the film, in which McCarthy steals Bateman’s identity and Bateman (not Batman, as the trailer points out) hunts her down.
The trailer has plenty of slapstick destruction and violence, but I can’t say it managed to make me laugh very much. Bateman seems to be running on autopilot, and with the number of times he’s punched or has a car destroyed in the trailer alone, I’m guessing the film will be quite repetitive. Maybe I’m just not a lover for those ‘guys having a bad day’ type comedies, other than PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES (1987). I might not rush out to see this in theatres like I did HORRIBLE BOSSES.
IDENTITY THIEF is released 1st March 2013. It stars Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, John Cho, Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, and Eric Stonestreet.
