Tom Hardy To Climb Everest For Doug Liman

Director Doug Liman is currently in pre-production for the Tom Cruise starrer, ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, and there were also reports that his next film would be TIME AND AGAIN. But along with the likes of Guillermo Del Toro and Joss Whedon, Liman seems to be a very busy man with a lot of projects on the go as he is now reported to be directing an adaptation of the Jeffrey Archer novel PATHS OF GLORY.

Tom Hardy is in early talks to star as George Mallory (pictured below), the first man to scale the mountain, even though his claim is surrounded by controversy as some believe he never actually reached the summit. The film will simply be titled EVEREST, and the screenplay has been written by Sheldon Turner, the writer behind UP IN THE AIR (2009).

Despite my love of film, I can’t really recall if there is a film that focuses on climbing Everest. The film will certainly have drama, suspense, and even romance, as Mallory was known to carry a picture of his wife at all times and planned to leave it at the top of Everest. This sounds like it could be a fascinating character piece.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
