Any video-games fans or documentary enthusiasts out there? Well if you pigeon hole yourself in any such category you might find this little humdinger of a project to be of some interest.
If you enjoyed Seth Gordon’s 2007 feature THE KING OF KONG – A FIST FULL OF QAURTERS then Thomas Hewett’s latest feature MORE THAN A GAME might be well up your alley.
The two films are similar in that they are heavily gaming orientated, but despite having this in common MORE THAN A GAME offers an intimate and compelling insight into the fighting game community that’s growing in population and support at break-neck speeds.
MORE THAN A GAME provides a technical, historical, and theoretical background about the game Super Street Fighter 4 and its predecessors, from those directly involved in the games development and those playing at a professional level. A colourful array of contributors guide the audience through training whilst pro gamers prepare for the biggest video games fighting tournament in the world, Evolution.
From London to L.A to Las Vegas and San Francisco MORE THAN A GAME offers an amusing gaming history lesson as well as character profiles and personal rivalries from within the fighting game community. The film is very much focussed on the community aspect but manages to maintain an in-depth round up about the logistics of fighting games, the people that play them and the reasons for playing at such a competitive level.
The film is due for release in time for July 2012 and will make its way around film festivals internationally. Check out the trailer!
