Further to today’s report that the Hulk is set to star in another standalone movie (and hopefully a more successful and better received effort than the previous two), reports have surfaced that Mark Ruffalo has signed on to play Hulk’s alter ego Bruce Banner in another SIX movies.
Ruffalo has been applauded for his likeable performance as Banner in Joss Whedon’s AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, having replaced Ed Norton in the role. With many critics citing Hulk as their favourite character in AVENGERS, it’s little wonder Marvel would look to continue his story.
However, it’s unlikely that all six projects will be standalone Hulk movies. Marvel are likely to perfect the movie ‘crossover’, and once again add Hulk into the mix with other superheroes. Who knows, perhaps we’ll get to see Tony Stark suit up as the ‘Hulk Buster’ Iron Man? And there’s surely no love lost between Hulk and Thor? (The two previously clashed in 1988’S THE INCREDIBLE HULK RETURNS – a video rental favourite in the Fordy household.)
Whatever, expect this to be just the beginning for Marvel Studios. Whilst AVENGERS ASSEMBLE might seem the payoff for four years worth of movies, it’s merely the proof that superhero ensembles can indeed work.
All we need now is for the Avengers to square of against the Justice League of America…
