After twenty three years of misleading clues and silence, Matt Groening has finally decided that the time is right to tell us where The Simpsons live. The location of Springfield has been a hot topic for SIMPSONS fans since the show began, and with Springfield being one of the most common city names in America, everyone was free to imagine their own Springfield.
Until now, as Groening has finally confirmed that Springfield (or, specifically, the name Springfield) is a place in Oregon, his home state. Of course, since the show’s inception, Groening has been grabbing bits and bobs from his home town of Portland for inspiration (he grow up on Evergreen Terrace; Portland features, among others, Flanders and Quimby streets), so this isn’t the world shattering news it could have been. But even so, this announcement might drive up the tourist trade for Springfield, Oregon, if only to see a town which simultaneously contains gorges, forests, deserts, mountains, and portals to other dimensions.
