It may come as a shock to videogamers around the world, but I haven’t played on a console since the Super Nintendo was around (‘what is one of those?’ I hear our younger readers ask). This makes it difficult for one to comment if a videogame has made a successful transition to the big-screen. Paul W. S. Anderson’s first RESIDENT EVIL feature was one I quite enjoyed (having Milla Jovovich running round in a red dress helped I suppose), and my thoughts were; it was a dumb but decent enough zombie/action hybrid. As for knowing if it was anything like the game upon it was based – I haven’t the foggiest. The sequels on the other hand, I found as absolute punishment.
For fans of the hugely successful franchise, here we have our first look at the trailer for the latest entry. Entitled RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION 3D (naturally), Milla Jovovich returns (again) alongside Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory, Kevin Durand, Shawn Roberts, Colin Salmon, Johann Urb, Boris Kodjoe and Li Bingbing. It is due in cinemas 14th September 2012.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
