No Hablo Espanol: Trailer For Will Ferrell’s ‘Casa de Mi Padre’

All action, all comedy, all Spanish. The full trailer for Will Ferrell’s telenovella inspired foreign-language comedy CASA DE MI PADRE has arrived. Will Ferrell stars as ranch-hand Armando Alvarez (say it out loud, it’s fun) whose family life is takes a turn for the worse when brother Raul (Diego Luna, CONTRABAND) ignites a war with powerful drug lord Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).

The trailer is brimming with classic Ferrell-isms, though a cynical part of me wonders if BLADES OF GLORY and STEP BROTHERS fans would be turned-off at the idea of subtitles. As a potentially brain-damaged classmate of mine once stated, “I don’t want to watch a video-book!”. Of course I’m tarring a large group with one brush and time will tell if this unusual approach to mainstream comedy will be a box office success, but CASA DE MI PADRE (The House of My Father) could potentially earn the cult-comedy status of ANCHORMAN.

CASA DE MI PADRE is directed by Matt Piedmont and written by Andrew Steele, both of whom worked with Ferrell back in his SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE days. The film hits US cinemas in March but it isn’t known when it will cross the border — Apologies for that lame joke — and reach the UK. Watch the trailer below.
