Robert Patrick to replace Bryan Cranston in Gangster Squad

Robert Patrick has reportedly signed on for the role of Max Kennard in the upcoming crime thriller GANGSTER SQUAD. According to Variety, Patrick will replace Bryan Cranston, who was tipped to play the character until recently.

The film, directed by Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND), will be adapted from a series of articles in the L.A. Times about the true story of a police unit charged with convicting notorious gangtser Meyer Harris Cohen. The gangster – best known as ‘Mickey’ Cohen – also featured in James Ellroy’s ‘L.A. Noir’ books, and was portrayed in a fictionalised version in Curtis Hanson’s L.A. CONFIDENTIAL.

Cranston, who has pulled out from the project, can be currently seen in the new season of BREAKING BAD, and will feature in the upcoming TOTAL RECALL remake.

Patrick – the former T-1000 – will join a star-studded cast of Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Giovanni Ribisi, Josh Brolin, and possibly Emma Stone (still to be confirmed). With a red-hot cast and fascinating subject matter, this could prove one of next year’s most exciting projects.
