Sir Ian McKellen is to marry Patrick Stewart.
It’s true! Magneto and Professor X. Gandalf and Jean Luc Picard. But before slash fiction writers collapse with pleasure, McKellen will in fact be officiating at the wedding of Stewart and his fiancé, jazz singer Sunny Ozell (pictured above).
The legendary thesp bought it up on Jonathan Ross’ chat show, during which he flirts with Matt Smith, giving geeks the world over even more to swoon at with a Doctor Who/X-Men/Hobbit mash up right before our eyes. While discussing the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, Sir Ian declared ‘I’m going to marry Patrick… How else do you put that? I’m going to officiate at his wedding.’ This is despite not being sure how he’s legally allowed to do so. ‘Well I don’t know… You get anybody along, a friend, and I read out the words and then Sunny and Patrick will be married.’
Wonderfully, he even has experience in this area. ‘I’ve done it once before, with two guys having a civil partnership. I was crying my eyes out.’ He mused further, ‘Well what do you wear when you officiate at a wedding? Last time I went with a sort of white gown… Something I bought in India, which was rather fetching. But you mustn’t upstage the bride.’
We suspect that Sir Ian will do a Pippa Middleton on Sunny Ozell.
THN knows this isn’t technically movie news, but dammit, we just love Ian and Pat. We will next see our magnetic hero in Vicious, a new sitcom on ITV alongside fellow theatrical powerhouse Derek Jacobi as a bitchy elderly couple. If you’re keeping score, that means Gandalf is married to The Master from Doctor Who. And who needs slash-fic when you’ve got ITV?
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is set for release 18th July 2014. It will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Booboo Stewart, Omar Sy, Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen. Presumably in a rather fetching gown.
