Parker Posey has joined the cast of Netflix‘s upcoming redo of Lost In Space. Posey will play the character of Dr. Smith in the series, a character made famous by Jonathan Harris in the original 1965 cult sci-fi TV classic, and then Gary Oldman in the 1998 film.
The original show, which ran for three years until 1968, followed the Robinson family who were supposed to set off on a five-year mission to explore a distant planet, but in an act of sabotage by the scheming Dr. Zachary Smith — who managed to get himself trapped aboard the spaceship — left them adrift in space for three years. The Robinsons, pilot Don West, Dr. Smith and their trusty robot move from planet to planet, always searching for a way to return to Earth.
Posey can currently be seen on Netflix in the comedy mock-doc Mascots, and will next be seen in the movie The Brits Are Coming opposite Alice Eve.
Lost In Space will roll into production in 2017 for a 2018 bow on the streaming network.
