Johnny Depp is set to star in Labyrinth, a brand new non-fiction drama over at Good Films. The film is based on the 2002 novel of the same name where Depp will play the lead character of Russell Poole, the late ‘LA detective who the towards the end of the 1990s investigated the unsolved assassinations of hip-hop icons Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls’.
Poole encountered endless dead ends, yet his dogged legwork uncovered corruption in the LAPD that rocked the institution to its core.
The announcement was made on the eve of the 2016 Toronto Film Festival (from where we type this) where the film will be pitched to buyers.
Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) will direct the film from a screenplay by Christian Contreras, based on Randall Sullivan’s book.
There’s no proper word on when this will go into production but we’ll keep you updated.
