Watch: ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Making-Of Featurette

The sequel to 2011’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES may not be in cinemas just yet, but 20th Century Fox has released a behind-the-scenes featurette showing how some of the amazing effects work in DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

The one minute footage is a series of split screen clips, showing before and after shots of each actor and their ape counterpart once the CGI wand has been waved – a kind of primate make-over, if you will. It’s clever stuff, but I do miss the monkey suits from 1968’s THE PLANET OF THE APES.

Caesar (Andy Serkis), Koba (Toby Kebbell), Blue Eyes (Nick Thurston), Ash (Doc Shaw), Rocket (Terry Notary) and Maurice (Karin Konoval) all feature in the clip. We believe Blue Eyes is also known as River, the son of Caesar and Cornelia (Judy Greer). The story’s set 15 years after the previous film, and follows Caesar (Serkis), who now leads a band of genetically modified apes in a post-apocalyptic landscape. You can see the miracle of technology for yourself below:

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES swings into cinemas 17th July in the UK. It stars Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman, Judy Greer, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Nick Thurston, Doc Shaw, Terry Notary, Karin Konoval  and Kodi Smit-McPhee, and is directed by Matt Reeves.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
