Clooney & Heslov Planning ‘Pioneer’ Remake

Coming off the back of THE MONUMENTS MEN, director and star George Clooney and business pal Grant Heslov are in talks to create a remake of Norwegian thriller PIONEER.

Set in the 1980s, the story follows two brothers working during the Norway oil boom, who lay pipeline in the North Sea. Dangerous as it is, an accident occurs, leading one of the brothers on a mission to uncover the truth, with him realizing he may have taken on a task too big for one man.

The original production, directed by Erik Skjoldbjaerg (PROZAC NATION), was released in its home country in August 2013, with limited screenings opening at various international festivals. With the original being less than a year old – and with this news surfacing – it says to me that it was either very successful…or bombed, and by attaching Clooney’s name to the remake there’s hope for another try.

George and Grant will produce under their company Smokehouse, with Sony Pictures currently dealing with the rights.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
