xmas-guide

This Christmas sees the DVD celebrate 15 years of existence and although that might not seem like a long time, we all know that it changed the industry for the better…and meant no more chewed VHS tapes! 2013 sees the release of some great titles and with 18.5 million people in the UK picking these up for Christmas presents – we know you want to be a part of the 37% of adults doing the same!

Gatsby_BD3D_3D_O_ring_D2First up, is Baz Lurhmann’s version of THE GREAT GATSBY starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire. The director, who shot to fame across the world with his modernised ROMEO + JULIET, takes on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic story with a flamboyant and stunning looking rendition.

THE GREAT GATSBY follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Get the must own DVD and Blu-ray of the year this Christmas available now on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download. More details over on their Facebook page.

Next up is Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan’s brilliant reinvention in MAN OF STEEL. The film may have leaned towardsMOS_2Disc_3DBD_LENTICULAR_RETAIL_2D making the legendary DC icon a little bit darker – with many bemoaning the lack of lighter moments – but it truly has an emotional punch and perfect technology entwined to reintroduce the superhero to a whole new audience.

What impressed us the most though was the development of the story, the flashbacks merged perfectly with the narrative going forward and – obviously most important – Henry Cavill’s superb portrayal of the man. For further details on the release and where you can get it, just click here!

81e+Wo1mUFL._SL1500_If you’re after fun for all the family, you can’t do much better than DESPICABLE ME 2 this Christmas. It was one of the biggest animations of 2013 across the world and rightfully so as it’s absolutely brilliant. Starring the voices of Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig, this follow-up to the bonkers first outing sees Gru being recruited by the Anti-Villain League to help deal with a powerful new super criminal! Check out my review here, and find details of how to pick a copy up by clicking here. By the way, those Minions really will make you laugh – no matter what your age!

Although we initially didn’t know what to expect, THE WOLVERINE sees Hugh Jackman return once TheWolverinePackshot_Officialagain as one of the most iconic character from the X-Men universe, and takes a step towards the changing superhero movies and is well-worth picking up – especially for the bonus features and its ‘second screen’ app. THE WOLVERINE happily distinguishes the memory of ‘Origin’s and gives us an action-packed, reinvigorated adventure for the Wolverine and sets us up nicely for the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
