Director Tom Donahue’s recent doc has already aired on HBO and had a small theatrical release in New York and L.A. but its not to be buried in time just yet. Distributors Submarine Delux have nabbed the U.S. rights to the production and plan to release it widely this November.
CASTING BY examines the role of the casting director in Hollywood and focuses on unsung big shots like Marion Dougherty and Lynn Stalmaster. The project also looks at the changes to the casting process in the 50’s and 60’s as the faces of Hollywood leads became less rigidly formulaic and more unconventional.
Donahue made his name in the business as an editor but this new found exposure may well solidify the man as a popular director of documentaries.
