Rooney Mara of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO fame has taken Mia Wasikowska’s place in the drama CAROL, directed by Todd Haynes. Mara will join Cate Blanchett in the film, which is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novella ‘The Price of Salt’, which tells the story of a lesbian romance in the 1950s in New York.
The movie follows the relationship between two women from widely different backgrounds, a 20-year-old girl working at a department store and a rich wife trapped in an unhappy marriage. Highsmith wrote the novella under the pseudonym Claire Morgan. The film is produced by Elizabeth Karlsen and is set to start shooting in spring 2014.
