I have a deep rooted love of all things John Woo (bar MI:II), so this headline instantly grabbed by attention this afternoon. The folks over at ExpendablesPremiere.com have managed to grab an interview with the legendary action director himself, and asked him if he would be up for directing a third film in the EXPENDABLES franchise. It seems he might be up for it:
I’ve just seen The Expendables II and would like to know if you have seen it and your opinion about the film?
Woo : It was very big in China and all over the news. It was a great movie. I saw it with my family. We all love the action. Van Damme made a believable villain.
I look forward to that and also there is some news on the Internet about fans lobbying you to direct Expendables III if it happens. Will you do it?
Woo : (Laughs) I read that. I am a big fan of all those guys and I will do it but I want less studio and producer interference. I want to shoot the movie the way I want. That’s the difference making a movie in China and Hollywood. In China, The Studio and producer allow flexibility to the director. One thing for sure is, I want it to take place in China. I also have a vision of this big fight between Jet Li and Van Damme but then they have killed him off.
Love the idea, and even more so if it became a proper John Woo movie with zero studio interference like the big guy wants. THE EXPENDABLES II experience was so off the wall, adding John Woo to the mix to take it to balletic brilliance. We just need a few dozen doves, 10,o00 bullets and Jean Claude to come back as his twin brother and bite the ass off a rattle snake, and we’re into action-gold territory once again.

Pls John Woo, don’t direct this film….it’s garbage imo. A bunch of old retired farts coming out of their old pants and trying to kick some asses?? You must be joking. I never like that idea. It’s a way to sell tickets but you ain’t getting my money.

Van Damn can return. Most of his movies he has had twin brothers, why not do that for expendables 3! Would be epic fight with Jet Li.
