The long-gestating sequel to Gavin Hood’s dire X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE looks to be finally moving forward. We already knew Hugh Jackman would be back to sharpen those adamantium claws, with COPLAND and WALK THE LINE director James Mangold taking over the previously attached Darren Aronofsky. The action this time will take place in Japan, with the already confirmed cast of Hiroyuki Sanada, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee, Hal Yamanouchi, Rila Fukushima and Tao Okomoto.
Now we understand TOTAL RECALL and THE A-TEAM stunner Jessica Biel has been offered the role of Viper, a major player in the notorious organisation HYDRA. Fox are obviously trying to distance the forthcoming film as much as possible from the critically-mauled X-MEN spin-off. The simplistic title, THE WOLVERINE, suggests they are aiming this squarely at the Marvel fanboys. The plot is taken directly from Frank Miller and Chris Claremont’s acclaimed 1982 comic-arc.
Shooting on THE WOLVERINE is expected to start in September/October for a release 26th July 2013.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
