This is probably the worst news I have heard all week.
After decent turns with THE MUMMY and then THE MUMMY RETURNS, I was pleased that the producers had chosen to let the franchise slide quietly under the rug of development hell along with Arnold Vosloo’s character. I had, to be honest, already begun to tire of Brendan “Indiana” Fraser and Rachel Weisz at the end of 2 so imagine my absolute horror that I discover that there was a THIRD film scheduled for release in 2009. What got my goat was that people actually got excited and hyped by it…
THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR was, let’s face the music here, totally and utterly below expectation and par. From the Abominable Snowman all the way down to the piss-poor acting and terrible screenplay. So now, I almost spat out my Saturday morning cornflakes when I heard that Maria Bello ( Rachel Weisz character from 1 and 2) said that another MUMMY film will “absolutely” be made, and that she has already signed on.
Luke Ford, who played a grown up ALEX, in 3 has signed on for… wait for it… THREE more films. At the end of the third film, it was suggested that more mummies were found in Peru which seems to have been backed up by Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello, who claimed both Mexico and Peru could be the location of the fourth adventure in this series.
The rumoured title of the film is THE MUMMY 4: RISE OF THE AZTEC and no release date is currently known.

Old news, a couple years old news. I doubt this film will ever happen. Especially with how bad the last one was.

I thought the Mummy 4 was done quite well; the location choice of China was very exotic and beautifully presented. However, doing Mummy 4 in Peru or Mexico? Bad choices! The chosen site should be India or even ancient Sumer….after all, historically along with China, those would be considered the top, highly regarded Pagan civilizations that shared more cultural and trading histories with Egypt.

i think the mummy 3 was ok but it would have been much better if they’d had kept Ardeth Bay in this one. I sooo hope they put him in the 4th one

I love the mummy franchise but when i saw the part three i was quite disappointed because Rachel Weisz is the best choice to portray Evelyn! I hope shell return on the next one!
