Could Clive Owen Be About To Join RoboCop?

Yesterday we brought you the disappointing news that Hugh Laurie had dropped out of villain duties in the upcoming ROBOCOP re-imagining. Details on the script are controversial to say the least, suggesting this latest attempt at a Paul Verhoeven remake could be a completely new vision, with a new spin on the story of Detroit Officer Alex Murphy’s transformation into a cybernetic super cop.

MGM is apparently looking to replace Laurie rather quickly, with fellow British star Clive Owen currently being lined up. He’s one actor they have targeted to co-star alongside Joel Kinnaman’s title character and a supporting cast that includes Gary Oldman, Micheal Kenneth Williams, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Jackie Earle Haley and Abbie Cornish.

Shooting is set to commence next month for a release scheduled for 9th August 2013 with THE ELITE SQUAD director Jose Padhila at the helm. If you missed the Comic-con viral video that gave us our first look at the new design for battle-bot ED-209 , you can still check it out HERE. We’ll keep you posted if Owen (or any other actors) sign up .

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
