I love scouring YouTube for brand new cool channels and here’s one we stumbled across which has apparently been set up by The Crow filmmaker Alex Proyas. Proyas is also the man behind the likes of Dark City, I, Robot, Knowing, and Gods of Egypt, so this filmmaking-themed masterclass is worth paying attention to.
The Alex Proyas YouTube channel – Mystery Clock Cinema, subtitled ‘Alex Proyas Film & Philosophy’ has many videos providing insight into the filmmaking process and is full of hints and tips for aspiring directors, as well as his early student short films.
This has to be an absolute must for students and cinephiles.
Egyptian-born Proyas is an alumni from the Australian Film, Television and Radio film school and cut his teeth working on commercials and music videos for the likes of Sting, INXS, Mike Oldfield and Crowded House (and many more). He exploded onto the international movie scene with the aforementioned The Crow, which starred the late Brandon Lee, before moving on to work with some of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest lalents, including Nicolas Cage (Knowing) and Will SMith (I, Robot).
Head on over to his YouTube channel by clicking on the the link above. Here’s one of his brilliant short movies to whet your whistle.
