Earlier this year, millions of fans’ dreams came true when it was announced that there is to be a Judge Dredd TV series. Well, not being one to relieve oneself over one’s bonfire, it looks like there may be a bit of a wait.
According to producer Jason Kingsley, who was interviewed by SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar), who asked him how development on the project was going. Here’s his reply:
“Long-form storytelling makes showing Mega-City One and its inhabitants much easier. Trying to fit all of that into a two-hour movie is very hard. My best guess is that it’s at least two years away. But we’re so early in the process that things could happen a bit faster, or much more slowly.”
So, it terms of tone of the series? What will that look like?
“Dark fantasy elements are one area that would be great to explore. The show will combine the macabre with the insane and the light-hearted. It’s a big place, after all, with 400 million stories to tell.”
The Judge Dredd/ 2000 A.D. stories have been adapted into two movies so far; the 1996 Sylvester Stallone action vehicle, and then the highly regarded Karl Urban reboot released in 2012.
We’ll bring you more on the Judge Dredd TV series, which is being referred to as Judge Dredd: Mega City One, as we get it.
