Miles Teller has signed on for the full-length feature WHIPLASH which is based on the short film of the same name from Damien Chazelle. The short, which won the Short Film Jury Prize as this year’s Sundance Film Festival, sees J.K Simmons star as a jazz teacher trying to keep his temper in check around a drum student (Teller) as his lofty ambitions aren’t quite working out.
Teller broke out in Nicole Kidman drama RABBIT HOLE when he played the teenager who she formed an odd friendship with after he drives the car that kills her son. Roles in the remake of FOOTLOOSE and the party-gone-wrong crime comedy PROJECT X followed. Teller is currently on the press circuit in America with co-star Shailene Woodley to promote James Ponsoldt’s coming-of-age drama THE SPECTACULAR NOW which has been winning rave reviews since it premiered at Sundance in January and walked away with the Special Jury Prize for the two young actors.
The two will reunite for the latest YA book adaptation, DIVERGENT, thought to have the potential to be the next HUNGER GAMES. DIVERGENT will be released in March 2014 but before that Teller will be on screens in several comedies; GET A JOB which takes a look at college graduates trying to secure employment and also starring Anna Kendrick and Bryan Cranston, TWO NIGHT STAND and Zac Efron-helmed ARE WE OFFICIALLY DATING?
WHIPLASH starts filming in September.
