Tom McCarthy does not have many directorial credits to his name, but he does know how to choose them wisely, because he has signed up to direct a new and controversial project by DreamWorks Studio and Participate Media that tells the story of the Catholic Church’s decades-long cover-up of its pedophile priests in Massachusetts as uncovered by The Boston Globe. McCarthy will co-write the film’s script alongside Josh Singer, who wrote another film that has got people talking recently, the Wikileaks movie THE FIFTH ESTATE.
Speaking of the news, DreamWorks president Holly Bario said:
“The Boston Globe’s coverage of the Catholic priest scandal opened the door to a bigger story that had worldwide ramifications, The story of how this team of editors and reporters came to uncover the truth will make a dramatic and compelling film, especially with the talents of our director Tom McCarthy and his co-screenwriter Josh Singer on board.”
The Boston Globe uncovered decades of cover ups in the Catholic church after a year’s investigation. The Globe won the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and their investigation lead to the resignation of Cardinal Bernard Law.
