Interview: Scott Chambers discusses ‘Doctor Jekyll’ & the new ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’

Just ahead of its exclusive first-look at last year’s FrightFest, the Doctor Jekyll team revealed that the film was to be the first in a new era of Hammer Films. The historic and iconic institution was responsible for films such as Dracula and The Hounds of the Baskervilles. However, after ruling the British film industry during the 50s, 60s and 70s, the team went dark. Now they are back with a modern re-interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novel, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Directed by Joe Stephenson, Doctor Jekyll stars Suzie Izzard as the formidable Nina Jekyll who employs recently released criminal Rob (Scott Chambers) to be her assistant. As the two begin to circle one another, a darkness descends upon the house and things get strange. It’s an exciting new take on the classic story that will leave even the most devout fans guessing its intentions. With Doctor Jekyll, Stephenson ushers in a refreshing new direction for Hammer Films, which if maintained, could see Hammer rise from the grave once again.

In the lead-up to Doctor Jekyll’s arrival on Digital Download, THN spoke with star Scott Chambers. Doctor Jekyll sees Chambers and Stephenson reunite after working together on Chicken, the film which was his first big acting gig. In addition to acting, Scott is also a dedicated independent producer and was responsible for 2023’s Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey

When we caught up with him, Chambers was hard at work putting the finishing touches onto the horrifying sequel to Winnie-the-Pooh. Our discussion delved into the production process on Doctor Jekyll, working with Izzard, and exactly what fans can expect from the next chapter of Winnie-the-Pooh. Doctor Jekyll is available on Digital Download in the UK from Monday 11th March 2024.
